Data sources

Many of the listings here were seeded from open datasets, then filtered and re-categorised by us. These are the sources, and what each asks for in return.

Overture Maps

From the places theme, release 2026-08-19.0. The Lebanese records come mostly from Meta, with smaller numbers from Foursquare, Microsoft, PinMeTo and DAC. The Meta, Microsoft, PinMeTo and DAC portions are under CDLA-Permissive-2.0; the Foursquare portion is under Apache-2.0, whose notice is reproduced in full below. Overture's attribution page.

What we changed

The data is not reproduced as-is. From Overture we kept only records with a Lebanese address, at least one phone number, a confidence of 0.4 or better, and a category we have a home for. For those we kept the name, first phone number, coordinates, street and locality, and discarded every other field. We then re-mapped Overture’s categories onto our own taxonomy, assigned each record to the nearest Lebanese district by great-circle distance, normalised phone numbers to +961 form, and dropped any whose number duplicated one already imported from OpenStreetMap.

Foursquare OS Places — NOTICE

Reproduced verbatim as Apache-2.0 requires. It stays in English because it is a licence.

The Foursquare OS Places dataset (the "Data") is licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0 (the "License"). You may not use, modify, or distribute the Data except in compliance with the License.

– if using/distributing the Data in flat file form as-is or after making changes/modifications: include this NOTICE.txt file, which may be modified to include an additional notice of your changes/modifications, if any.
– if using/distributing the Data in API form as-is or after making changes/modifications: include a copy of the content from this NOTICE.txt file prominently in your developer documentation for such API, which may be modified to include an additional notice of your changes/modifications, if any.
